On this occasion, SQEP wishes to invite the broad community of Quebec, Canada and international evaluators to be part of this event and thus take advantage of opportunities for learning, development, exchange and networking on key issues related to our community of practice.

Our Conference theme is: Navigating evaluation: Making waves in Aotearoa and across the Pacific 2015 has been designated the International Year of Evaluation by the UN to advocate and promote evaluation and its use. The theme of the International Year of Evaluation is: Evidence for the world we want.Using evaluation to improve people’s lives through better policy making. In celebrating the Year of Evaluation the ANZEA 2015 Conference theme invites you to consider the contribution of evaluation to creating a better Aoteaora New Zealand and Pacific. The South Pacific ocean connects Aotearoa in the South West to the “sea of islands” at the centre of Oceania. Made up of Islands in the west Papua New Guinea, Solomon and Vanuatu, Oceania stretches east to the Cook Islands, Tahiti and Easter Islands. It reaches north to Tokelau, Tuvalu and Nauru with Fiji, Samoa, Niue and Tonga nestled in the middle of the ocean expanse.

This collection gathers eight stories from around the world about evaluations that have made a difference to the lives of people. These stories collectively represent a range of approaches to evaluation, making it clear that there is no one 'right' way to do evaluation that leads to improvements in people’s lives. This project was supported through an EvalPartners-Innovation Challenge grant, which aimed to strengthen the demand for and use of evaluation to inform policy making during the International Year of Evaluation (2015).

The Conference, we will examine the independence of evaluation in practice. Moreover, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Parliamentary Control of the Administration – the evaluation service of the Swiss Parliament – we will address the question of the institutional independence of evaluation services. We will also look at the bigger picture, examining the status of the independence of evaluation in Switzerland in an international perspective.
