The primary objective of this program is to equip learners from a variety of sectors with the knowledge and skills to successfully plan, implement and manage monitoring and evaluation systems from initiation to close-out.
The hands-on program presents practical steps, examples, and exercises in applying M&E concepts and tools. Participants will work in groups to apply these concepts in an integrated manner, enabling them to plan, monitor, and evaluate their interventions, be accountable, and improve performance.

This program provides training to students who require knowledge and skills in monitoring and evaluation methods. It is aimed at professionals and other individuals who are tasked with the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs. Students complete five assignments and a research assignment.

The MPhil program focuses on the history and theory of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) as a developing 'discipline' in its own right, which is practiced within various contexts. M&E has its own approaches and models, sets of designs and methodologies and domains of implementation. This program offers a comprehensive and focused curriculum on the theory, methodology, and practice of M&E. Students complete eight (six compulsory and two optional) modules, as well as a research assignment.

The two-year doctoral program aims to meet the demand for high-level and scarce skills in Monitoring and Evaluation studies on the African continent. At this level, the aim is to ensure that a new generation of evaluation scholars is trained to ensure that the growing professionalisation of the field is sustained and that a tradition of high-quality scholarship in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in Africa is established and further expanded. The successful completion of the program involves a good grasp of the theoretical and methodological demands of scholarship in the field that culminates in a novel and original contribution to the field in the form of a substantive dissertation and subsequent journal articles.

This program aims to strengthen capacity in management, monitoring and evaluation. It is a response to government’s demand for personnel who can accurately measure outputs and outcomes of its interventions as a way of enhancing evidence-based decision-making. Scarcity of local personnel with these and other related skills translates into government sourcing these skills internationally, which is often expensive, untimely, and not customized.

The Masters in Management are designed to test student's ability to design and carry out a complex problem solving task within a well-articulated analytical and conceptual framework. Graduates will have a strong foundation in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, and the ability to synthesize knowledge from multiple disciplines. The program equips students with a thorough understanding of evaluation theory and practice. The course content is delivered through six block release weeks over the course of two years, making it a convenient option for working professionals or students not based in Cape Town. Graduates have the ability to work with a diverse range of social programs, including poverty reduction, child welfare, HIV/AIDS, public health, housing, domestic violence, drug addiction, agricultural development, food security, and nutrition programs. They can also apply their skills to people management programs in large organizations, aimed at improving skills, performance, or organizational culture.

This diploma is designed to teach how to conceptualize and track complex projects, analyze these projects, and report on the process, ensuring the best possible outcomes. Monitoring and Evaluation in the public and non-profit sectors has become critical in designing and implementing programs in complex social contexts. There is a growing need to define appropriate program indicators, design fit-for-purpose monitoring systems, and apply sound theoretical basis to program design and evaluation.

The department of Organizational Psychology offers a PhD in Program Evaluation by dissertation only. We do not offer a PhD by coursework and dissertation.
