The program is designed to prepare graduates for careers in a wide range of educational settings. Graduates acquire specialized knowledge and skills in test theory, test and instrument development and validation, program evaluation, and quantitative analysis of educational and psychological data. The Ed.D. is appropriate for individuals who wish to focus on the application of measurement and evaluation techniques in education, psychology, and business and industry.

The program is designed to prepare graduates for careers in a wide range of educational settings. Graduates acquire specialized knowledge and skills in test theory, test and instrument development and validation, program evaluation, and quantitative analysis of educational and psychological data. The Ph.D. is appropriate for individuals with strong quantitative and technical skills who wish to focus on theoretical issues in measurement and evaluation or who have a strong background in a substantive area of psychology in which they wish to further the development and application of measurement techniques.

The program prepares students for research, administration and teaching positions in public policy. The doctoral program is interdisciplinary and the student body is diverse, with approximately one-quarter of students come from outside the United States. The Program Evaluation field is designed for Ph.D. students who wish to develop both quantitative and qualitative research skills that may be applied to analyze and assess the performance of public and nonprofit programs. As a student in this field, you will be exposed to research methods from multiple disciplines that will prepare you for program evaluation and performance auditing professions.

This Doctoral program prepares its graduates to conduct original research to help scholars and policymakers understand the trade-offs involved in such choices across a broad range of critical issues. Students can focus on policy analysis and program evaluation; public budgeting and finance; public and nonprofit management; or urban and regional planning and development.

Students in the program develop the skills to conceptualize, design, evaluate and teach a wide variety of research approaches, methodologies, and applications. They gain knowledge, skills, and experience in statistical analyses, program evaluation, and measurement/psychometrics. They are taught how to communicate effectively with educators and other professionals in the development and application of research and psychometric materials. In addition, our doctoral students gain the expertise to teach courses at the college level, provide leadership in the conduct of research studies, and serve as consultants in research methodology and data analysis in education, industry, and government.

This is a multidisciplinary program of study whereby students and faculty examine educational problems from different traditions, including economics, political science, sociology, history and organizational studies. Additionally, students are required to take coursework in advanced research methods which allows them to develop strong data analysis skills and conduct rigorous policy research that advances knowledge and practice.

The program prepares students to become experts in research design and statistics, program evaluation, and applied measurement and testing. These skills are an essential component for careers in education, government or business settings. This applied program teaches students the critical skills needed for educational inquiry and quantitative techniques. Students in the program need strong analytical backgrounds, critical thinking, and communication and writing skills.

The program is intended to prepare graduates for faculty positions and for leadership roles in research organizations. Additionally, the degree is intended to allow students the flexibility necessary to develop programs that meet their individual needs and interests. Students are encouraged to develop their program of study in consultation with their advisor to include quantitative, qualitative, psychometrics, and evaluation. Students are required to identify four core areas for their programs, which will serve as areas for a comprehensive examination.

This program prepares students for the proper use and application of advanced statistics and evaluation procedures, specifically applied in the social and behavioral disciplines of education, psychology, counseling and other related fields. Our graduates are prepared for educational research and evaluation positions in schools, government agencies, private corporations and foundations, colleges and universities, research institutions and national testing centers.

The programs emphasize the design and conduct of research and evaluation, development and application of new techniques, analysis and interpretation of data in the context of theory and practice, and critical examination of research-based claims. Our goal is to prepare individuals who can critically examine research and evaluation, develop data collection designs and instruments, and conduct conceptual and statistical analyses appropriate to the field of education as well as other behavioral and social sciences.
