Since 1984, The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program has earned a worldwide reputation for collecting and disseminating accurate, nationally representative data on household and individual levels data on fertility, family planning, maternal and child health, gender, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and nutrition. There are various mechanisms in which data can obtained: raw data sets, actual country reports or live table.

How have you used or intend on using this resource?

There are many ways in which DHS site can be used, to conduct a primary data analysis using raw data, compile comparisons within and across countries by specific indicators, and analytical reports on various gender-related topics.

Almost all individual level data (such as knowledge and perceptions about HIV/AIDS, family planning, etc) are sex-disaggregated, and household data can be analysed by sex of household head, in addition to household size and information on educational levels of household members and interviewed individuals.

This is an essential resource for any kind of gender analysis, including establishing trends in a large number of internationally-accepted indicators across various domains such as education, HIV/AIDS, malaria, water and sanitation, etc.
