What's a Theory of Change?

In simple terms, A Theory of Change (ToC) is a systematic approach used in program/project planning, implementation, and evaluation. It is a visual representation and narrative that outlines the causal pathways between the activities a program undertakes and the desired goals it aims to achieve. It articulates how the project will make an impact in the world. [See, I told you, some of you are going...."Umm...what?", that's why it's better that I show you, instead of tell you].

Why Learn about Theories of Change?

Articulating your project is the gateway to funding, partnerships, and impact measurement. A Theory of Change serves as the guiding light. Global funders, such as the European Union, Global Affairs Canada, USAID, and Gates Foundation, rely on Theories of Change for decision-making. But even if you are not applying for funding, Theories of Change guide projects by answering crucial questions about purpose, impact, preconditions, assumptions, and risk strategies. Read the 10 reasons!

Who Is this Workshop For?

This workshop is ideal for individuals involved in project design, implementation, and evaluation across various sectors. It caters to leaders, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and anyone seeking to enhance their understanding of Theories of Change for effective collaboration and decision-making. Whether you're new to the concept or looking to refine your skills, this workshop provides valuable insights.

While I won't assume you know how to create a Theory of Change, I will assume you have heard of the concept before or have seen some examples (even if they weren't very good) or find it relevant to you after watching the short video.

What's Unique about this Workshop?

TOC involves abstract concepts, making it challenging for beginners to grasp the intricate relationships among elements. The field uses varied terminology, causing confusion and making it difficult for learners to navigate and apply TOC principles. This workshop offers a solution. You will dive in and build a Theory of Change using a guided exercise that breaks down complex concepts and gives you an intuitive understanding of ToCs. Discover the simplicity behind our most popular exercise, the 'soup exercise,' and read testimonials to see how participants, inspired by Dr. Roxana Salehi's approach, have gained valuable insights.

Who Will Teach this Workshop?

Dr. Roxana Salehi, Founder of Vitus Consulting, is a research and evaluation expert with over a decade of experience leading local and multi-country projects in the healthcare field. She has been training leadership teams, NGOs, and entrepreneurs across different sectors and countries on Theories of Change for many years. As a thought leader and the author of numerous scientific publications and reports, Dr. Salehi brings a wealth of expertise to the workshop. Her work is showcased in media in multiple languages (EN, ES, CAT).
