This program aims to contribute to the development of a culture focused on planning, monitoring, and evaluation, which views these processes not just as subsequent steps for defining goals, monitoring schedules and cash flow, and verifying results with the goal of obtaining funding and accountability to funders, but also as appropriate practices for improving decision-making in program and project management, especially in the social sector.

This program aims to prepare participants for positions in which they will manage monitoring and evaluation processes, intervene in their design and implementation, and support evaluators and stakeholders in the evaluation process to maximize its contribution of value in terms of knowledge and concrete proposals for improving public policies.

The course aims to provide participants with the essential skills to design and analyze research based on evidence. It trains participants in: i) translating policy concerns into research questions; ii) analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data; iii) understanding the current state of the field; and iv) designing, composing, and disseminating proposals for evidence-based research, both in the workplace and in broader research settings.

The program is characterized by its interdisciplinarity, the practical relevance of the course content and the well-founded knowledge and skills of our lecturers. It is primarily aimed at people who commission evaluations or are responsible for the management of evaluations.

The Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Evaluation builds on the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) level. In addition to the topics dealt with in the CAS, it conveys the methodological skills that are necessary for conducting evaluations (including written and oral surveys, group methods, evaluation of qualitative and quantitative data, interpretation and reporting). This DAS is aimed at people who work as evaluators themselves.

The program uses the latest research and insights to provide students with extensive knowledge and skills of evaluation theory and practice that can be applied to work settings. It is designed to produce evaluation specialists who have a strong understanding of the theoretical and practical skills relevant to this area. By undertaking this course, students will become familiar with theories underlying policy and program development, ethical practice, key concepts and approaches to evaluation and the various roles of an evaluator.

University of Colorado Denver’s Program Evaluation certificate provides both the theoretical knowledge and real-world experience to make our students well rounded, career-ready evaluators who exceed in diverse settings.

Students learn leading theories of program evaluation, explore evaluation design processes, and gain practical experience by developing and conducting at least one evaluation for a school or nonprofit. Students learn to collaborate with stakeholders to design meaningful evaluations, develop strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, examine ethical considerations in evaluation, and construct reports to target multiple program users. Examples and experiences provided are varied within Pre-K - 12 school settings, non-profit and community settings, large scale policies, and culturally responsive evaluation.

This Graduate Diploma offers students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in community-engaged research and evaluation, and to contribute to community and agency learning, effectiveness, and change. In this program students who have undergraduate degrees and experience working in social and community services will craft locally relevant research questions and/ or frame evaluation processes useful for both agency/ community and funder purposes, and build their capacities for conducting participatory, justice-focused research and evaluation.

In contrast to similar programs that concentrate solely on evaluation, this certificate program focuses on both evaluation and assessment, providing a broader foundational knowledge of the principles and best practices of this growing field. In addition, the program allows students to customize their learning experience by offering multiple elective courses to fulfill certificate requirements.
