Objective(s): provide candidates with an opportunity to acquire a basic understanding of evaluation and the necessary competencies to plan, commission, manage, and use evaluations and to communicate the results according to different audiences.
More specifically, the course will train candidates to describe the characteristics of evaluation and how it differs from other approaches, such as quality management; determine what evaluation results will be used for and plan the evaluation accordingly; structure the measures to be evaluated using impact models and to use these models as a basis for the evaluation; clarify the evaluation assignment in a discussion between client and contractor; name criteria for good evaluations and to take them into account in their work; and present the steps that are usually taken during an evaluation and to manage an evaluation project.

Scope: learning content includes... What is evaluation and what distinguishes it from other approaches, such as quality management? What are evaluation approaches, theories, standards, and designs? How to conceptualize an evaluation? How to commission an evaluation? What steps does an evaluation project include and what does project management involve? What makes a good evaluation and how can you use its results?
