Pensions, Poverty and Household Investments in Bolivia

This paper analyses the effect of the BONOSOL pension on the well-being of elderly Bolivians and finds a range of positive effects of the program on the lives of impoverished households.

The "study uses a regression discontinuity framework which is applied to the pre and post treatment periods. The regression discontinuity design takes advantage of a quasi-experiment introduced by some known eligibility criteria, in this case the discontinuity introduced by the 65 year age requirement for eligibility to the BONOSOL program." (Martinez 2004)

The use of the regression discontinuity framework is discussed and modelled in detail from page 11 onwards.
