This course trains professionals to lead multidisciplinary teams by providing knowledge that enables them to bring together various areas of expertise to develop new evaluation methods for public policies. The program's innovative approach involves an interdisciplinary perspective where various fields of knowledge, such as Social Sciences, Economics, Architecture and Urbanism, Geography, Education, Health, Natural and Agricultural Sciences, work together to achieve a common goal of evaluating public policies effectively. The research at the program focuses on three main areas: Public Policies and Social Changes, Design of Social Public Policies, and Public Policies, Territory, and Culture.

The Professional Master'sProgram in Methods and Management in Evaluation at UFSC has an interdisciplinary approach to evaluation, with a focus on strategic management, technical applicability, and operational management. The program emphasizes the effective use of knowledge and innovation and aims to enhance the professional experience of students. With a concentration in Methods and Management in Evaluation, the program provides practical training for professionals and researchers in the field of evaluation and its management, with a strong emphasis on educational processes that teach quantitative methods in evaluation.

The program equips students with a thorough understanding of evaluation theory and practice. The course content is delivered through six block release weeks over the course of two years, making it a convenient option for working professionals or students not based in Cape Town. Graduates have the ability to work with a diverse range of social programs, including poverty reduction, child welfare, HIV/AIDS, public health, housing, domestic violence, drug addiction, agricultural development, food security, and nutrition programs. They can also apply their skills to people management programs in large organizations, aimed at improving skills, performance, or organizational culture.

This diploma is designed to teach how to conceptualize and track complex projects, analyze these projects, and report on the process, ensuring the best possible outcomes. Monitoring and Evaluation in the public and non-profit sectors has become critical in designing and implementing programs in complex social contexts. There is a growing need to define appropriate program indicators, design fit-for-purpose monitoring systems, and apply sound theoretical basis to program design and evaluation.

The Master of Arts in Monitoring and Evaluation is an academic program which seeks to develop sound and in-depth understanding on theoretical and practical aspects of monitoring and evaluation. This program adopts standard methods, techniques and best practices that are increasingly employed by international organizations such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Bank in conducting monitoring and evaluation of development programs in developing countries. The program is designed for students who possess a first degree in any discipline seeking to develop a career in results-based monitoring and evaluation programs. It is also designed to enhance applied research skills for those aspiring to pursue advanced studies in monitoring and evaluation.

The main goal of this program is to develop a group of professionals who possess the skills in planning and evaluating public policies and programs, and are recognized as contributors to enhancing and refining public policy at all levels of government.

The Master of Education program is designed to provide opportunities for the professional development of those already working in an education-related field. The program aims to provide students with a solid foundation in both theory and practice, as well as the research skills necessary to specialize in one of five areas: Educational Administration, Educational Planning, Economics of Education, Curriculum Studies and Research, or Evaluation and Assessment.

The department of Organizational Psychology offers a PhD in Program Evaluation by dissertation only. We do not offer a PhD by coursework and dissertation.
